Time Walks

RU: Прогулки по времени, DE: Zeitwanderungen

Since 2025 I have been organizing “Time Walks” in Nuremberg.
These are not exactly traditional guided tours, but rather historical storytelling walks in meaningful locations, where we connect places, events, people, and time periods — spatially, historically, and dynastically.

All walks can also be conducted in a virtual format, using Google Maps, the Historical Atlas of Bavaria, and historical images.

Topics

Here’s a list of topics I offer for my Time Walks:

  • How the railway made Nuremberg famous — the first German railway Nuremberg–Fürth (1835)
    • The surprising transformations of the Nuremberg/Fürth city boundary (19th–20th centuries)
    • The steam locomotive arrives in Fürth (19th–20th centuries)
    • Doos — a “ghost” village
    • How Fürther Straße developed
    • Nürnberger Plärrer: always at the center of attention
  • Charles IV — the emperor from Prague and his Nuremberg (14th century)
  • The Golden Age of Nuremberg — Dürer & Co. (15th–16th centuries)
  • The old and new Main–Danube Canal (19th and 20th centuries)
  • Dutzendteich — a lost world before the Nazi era
  • Bavarian kings in the streets of Nuremberg (19th century)
  • The penultimate city wall (13th century)
  • Jews in old Nuremberg (14th–15th and 19th centuries)
  • King Maximilian Joseph I and how Nuremberg became Bavarian (early 19th century)
  • From the former railway station to the former port — along Rothenburger Straße (19th–20th centuries)
  • The Swedes in Nuremberg
  • The Prussians in Nuremberg

All walks are also available in a virtual format, using Google Maps, the Historical Atlas of Bavaria, and archival images.
